NEW ORLEANS, LA – Texas producer Woody Anderson was elected National Cotton Council chairman - the organization’s top position - at the NCC’s Annual Meeting here today.
He served as NCC’s vice chairman during 2003 and succeeds Alabama ginner Robert W. “Bobby” Greene.
Co-owner of Anderson Farms in Colorado City, TX, Anderson serves as director of the Rolling Plains Cotton Growers and the Producers Coop Gin; chairman of the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation; an advisory committee chairman of the Texas Agriculture Policy Board and a member of the Mitchell County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Anderson has served in various NCC leadership positions, including vice chair, Southwest Region for the American Cotton Producers from 1996-2002 and as chairman of the NCC’s Crop Insurance Committee from 1995-2001.
A University of Texas at Austin graduate, Anderson is a charter board member of First National Bank in Colorado City and a member of the Mitchell County Appraisal District Advisory Board. He is a member and lay leader of First United Methodist Church in Colorado City.
Anderson and his wife, Susan, have a son and a daughter.
Other NCC officers elected for 2004 include: Woods Eastland, a Greenwood, MS, cooperative official, as vice chairman; and vice presidents Charles Owen, a Pima, AZ, ginner; and Gail Kring, a Lubbock, TX, crusher. Fred Underwood, a Lubbock, TX, warehouseman; and Robert Weil, a Montgomery, AL, merchant; and G. Stephen Felker, a Monroe, GA, textile manufacturer; were re-elected NCC vice presidents, and Allen B. Helms, Jr. a Clarkedale, AR, cotton producer, was re-elected as secretary-treasurer.
Dr. Andrew Jordan was elected as vice president, NCC's Technical Services. Re-elected NCC staff officers were: Dr. Mark Lange, NCC president and chief executive officer, Dr. Gary Adams, vice president, Economics and Policy Analysis, Craig Brown, vice president, Producer Affairs; Dr. Bill M. Norman, vice president, Ginner Services; and Fred Johnson, vice president, Administration and Program Coordination, all of Memphis; and John Maguire, senior vice president, Washington Operations, and Allen Terhaar, vice president, Foreign Operations, both in Washington.
