USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. producers intend to plant 13.5 million acres of cotton in 2018/19, up 6.8% from the previous year. Upland area is projected to be 13.2 million acres, up 6.9% from 2017/18 while extra-long staple (ELS) area is projected at 262,000 acres, a 4.2% increase.
The NCC’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. farmers intend to plant 12.8 million acres of upland cotton and 254,000 acres of ELS.
